Session information
In this session, we discuss the biohazard risks associated with the use of water mist systems as a cooling intervention in public places. We specifically focus on the findings of our recent research on the occurrence of opportunistic premise plumbing pathogens such as Legionella spp., Pseudomonas spp., Amoeba spp., and Mycobacterium spp. in water mist systems and the factors that promote their growth and survival. We also look into the effectiveness or otherwise of chlorine disinfection on the control of these emerging pathogens. Water mist systems are widely used in mining, industrial, entertainment and food industries. If you work in these sectors and are responsible for the safe operation of mist systems such as dust suppressors, fresh produce misters and any form of a bioaerosol producing installation, then this session is for you.
